DESCRIPTION: The excavation
of an ancient Herodian palace will focus on the reception hall, peristyle
courtyard, and triclinium. The site contains a very rich assemblage of
artefacts reflecting many facets of daily life at Ramat Hanadiv.
PERIOD: Early Roman.
COUNTRY: Israel.
LOCATION: The southern edge
of Mount Carmel, about 6 miles (10km) northeast of Caesarea.
TRAVEL: Taxi from airport to
Kefar Glickson. Alternatively, a combination of buses and trains is necessary
(consult website for details).
DURATION: 1 week; July to August.
AGE: Minimum 18.
QUALIFICATIONS: No experience
necessary.
WORK: Exposing architectural
remains, cleaning, and registering pottery and other artefacts. Monday
to Friday, 5:30—13:00.
LANGUAGE: English.
ACCOMMODATION: Kibbutz Kefar
Glickson, about 8km east of Ramat Hanadiv. Apartment-style suites with
2 bedrooms (sleeps 3—4), 2 bathrooms, and a kitchen; or the Youth Hostel
with rooms that sleep 3—4 with a common bathroom and kitchen. Meals, project
transport, bedding, and towels provided.
COST: US$350 per week for the
youth hostel, US$400, US$480, or US$640 per week for various rooms at the
kibbutz.
