DESCRIPTION: Summer
work camps in Greece. These projects usually take place in remote areas
of Greece in co-operation with Forestry Departments, Local Authorities,
Cultural Associations, etc. Intercultural exchanges and conservation work
allow young people to contribute to a hosting community. CVG is also involved
in European Voluntary Service (EVS) projects.
SPECIES: Various: birds of prey,
forest flora and fauna.
HABITAT: Mediterranean ecosystems,
forests and wetlands.
GEOGRAPHIC LOCATION: Greece,
usually remote areas.
TRAVEL INFORMATION: Contact
the organisations for specific projects.
DURATION: 2—3 weeks; fixed dates
are provided for every project.
PERIOD: Summer.
AGE: Min. 18.
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS: No
particular skills are required. Experience and qualifications related to
the environment are welcome but not essential.
VOLUNTEERS WORK: Nature conservation
(forest-fire protection, tree-planting, footpath maintenance, construction
and placement of signs), cultural heritage (restoration of traditional
buildings, ancient cobbled-stone footpaths and help in archaeological digs)
or social benefit (restoration of school buildings, construction of playgrounds).
Work is 5 — 6 hours/day, 6 days/week.
LANGUAGE: English
ACCOMMODATION: Facilities are
modest. Hosting is usually in schools and community or youth centres. Volunteers
should bring along a sleeping bag and sleeping mat. Household chores involved.
