DESCRIPTION:
Wildlife conservation expeditions, research camps and courses. The projects
are part of a training programme which aims to conservation and sustainable
management of natural resources. You will personally contribute to the
conservation of the African savannah and get in touch directly with the
Maasai people and their environment.
SPECIES:
African large mammals, African large and small carnivores, primates,
rainforest birds, etc.
HABITAT:
Savannah, mountain forest, bushland, wetland.
GEOGRAPHIC LOCATION:
Tanzania.
TRAVEL INFORMATION:
Volunteers are met at Arusha Airport and taken to Mkuru Training Camp
(project base camp).
DURATION:
2 weeks
PERIOD:
Year round.
AGE:
No age restrictions.
QUALIFICATIONS AND
SKILLS: No
specific skills required, only adaptability and a reasonable level of
fitness.
VOLUNTEERS WORK:
Expect to work in
the field (e.g., surveying, tracking, identification) for several hours a
day. All necessary training is given and an Oikos Institute leader is always
present.
LANGUAGE:
English. Italian is also spoken.
ACCOMMODATION:
Basic, in huts or tents depending on the climate and location.
COST:
Variable and depending on project. Expedition contributions start from GB£
900 (EUR/US$ 1,350) for 2 weeks.
LONG TERM:
Outstanding volunteers and graduate students can stay up to three months.
