DESCRIPTION: Reef Check, is
an innovative global project based at the Hong Kong University of Science
and Technology but carried out in over 40 countries around the world. Reef
Check seeks to create a global network of volunteer recreational scuba
and non-scuba divers from all walks of life. Professional marine biologists
train and then lead these divers as they conduct ecological surveys specially
designed to detect human impacts on coral reefs.
SPECIES: Coral reef organisms,
both fish and invertebrates, especially corals and reef fish.
HABITAT: Tropical and subtropical
coral reefs.
GEOGRAFIC LOCATION: All tropical
countries with coral reefs
TRAVEL INFORMATION: Contact
the national co-ordinator for details.
DURATION: 3 days-2 weeks.
PERIOD: All year.
AGE: min. 18
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS: Good
swimming and snorkelling skills and/or experienced scuba diver is useful.
For non-divers, we also need help in organising Reef Check activities,

VOLUNTEERS WORK: Will be trained
